He brings an exceptional blend of Customer Management expertise combined with in-depth knowledge of capability development gained from both commercial and consultancy roles across the life, health, investment and general insurance markets.

In Capability Development, during Alan’s last commercial role, he led a global team at RSA to develop a multi-tiered capability framework for 10,000 staff, and then used this to conduct a global overview of capability levels, and drive several development programmes from Foundation up to Advanced levels of capability.

Since establishing the business, Alan has supported a number of clients on a variety of capability initiatives. He has worked with QBE to develop a global capability framework, support a global training needs analysis and used the findings to identify and shape development activity. He has worked with Vitality Health to evaluate the quality of their broker relationships and subsequently deliver training to their Account Management team to support improving these relationships. Whilst Alan’s focus is on working with Financial Services clients, he has also taken his expertise in capability evaluation and development to Hornby Hobbies to help them better understand their sales and account management capabilities, to then enable the development of a structured coaching and development programme for their sales and account management teams. His latest engagement has been to manage the design and delivery of a six month programme to develop trading skills for underwriters for the UK arm of a large multinational insurer.

Peter Turrell

Peter has specialised in Commercial Underwriting through an insurance career that has spanned 33 years, but has also held management positions in business development and operations, and has led a P&L for Professional and Financial Lines of some 70 staff and £170M+ income.

In a varied career he has worked in the Bristol, Glasgow, Manchester and London insurance markets.

Within his specialisms of Liability and Professional Financial Lines insurance and portfolio management, Peter has always been interested in underwriting leadership and the development of technical insurance skills. As a result he has become an experienced practitioner in training and development:

  • Designed and led courses on portfolio management rolled out across his employer’s company internationally
  • Promoted, obtained funding and led an Advanced Development Programme for experienced underwriters
  • Externally trained as coach and internally accredited in the company to coach other managers
  • Member of Training & Development board and active tutor
  • Led implementation of Commitment Based Management to the P&L business
  • Recognised expert and participant in RSA Technical Academy
  • Presented on underwriting and pricing at global conferences in Brussels, Dubai, and Hong Kong

Through his expertise in portfolio management he also has experience in actuarial pricing, statistical reserving, risk management, claims liaison, reinsurance and large account relationship management.

Peter is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and has a Masters in Business Administration.
