Supporting Polo Managing Agency in Preparing New Syndicates for Success at Lloyd’s

As we continue to grow our client base, MAP Training was delighted to welcome Polo Managing Agency as a new client last year, partnering with them to support the onboarding of new syndicates and prepare them for writing business at Lloyd’s.

The purpose of the programme is clear: to ensure that Active Underwriters and the teams supporting them are fully equipped to begin underwriting confidently, effectively, and in line with Lloyd’s requirements. Writing business on the Lloyd’s platform brings both opportunity and responsibility, and this training is designed to ensure new syndicates are ready from day one.

Designed specifically for virtual delivery, the programme is highly interactive. Group exercises, live Q&A discussions, and scenario-based challenges are embedded throughout to ensure the learning is practical, engaging, and directly relevant to participants’ roles.

The design and delivery of the programme has been led by Helen Hatchek, drawing on her extensive experience working within the Lloyd’s central team and as an Independent Non-Executive Director for a Lloyd’s Managing Agent. Her insight brings both regulatory understanding and real-world perspective, helping delegates translate requirements into practical action.

Having now delivered the programme multiple times, we are proud to have received excellent delegate feedback and to have worked closely with Polo Managing Agency to refine and tailor the experience to their needs. We look forward to continuing to support them as they onboard future syndicates.

Corinne Layton, Director of Underwriting, Polo Managing Agency, said:

“As Polo Managing Agency continues to expand its syndicate portfolio, ensuring syndicate teams are fully prepared to operate within the Lloyd’s market from day one is essential. The MAP Training programme has played an important role in providing our new syndicates with a clear, practical understanding of the Lloyd’s environment. The interactive format and Helen’s extensive market experience have made the sessions both engaging and highly relevant.”

MAP Training works with clients across the UK and internationally to develop underwriting capability. From technical underwriting skills and market knowledge to broader commercial awareness and decision-making, we design programmes that help underwriting teams build confidence, capability and performance. If you would like to discuss how we could support your organisation’s development needs, we would be delighted to hear from you.
